Core Beliefs

We are aligned with the Baptist Denomination, who from earliest times, have held to these beliefs:

1. THE LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST

This is a basic conviction, which gives rise to all our other beliefs.  Jesus’ Lordship means His claim over every part of the Christian’s life, His authority to direct His Church as its Head, and His authority over all Creation.  He will exercise His Lordship completely at His return.

2. THE AUTHORITY OF THE BIBLE

Baptists believe that the Bible is God’s Word to all people, and therefore is the supreme guide to faith and the Christian life.

Baptist churches do not have a formal creed that must be accepted.  However, local churches usually have their own statement of belief, incorporating points of doctrine accepted as true and consistent with Bible teaching.

3. THE CHURCH

The Church is made up of people who accept Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.  The local church is part of the worldwide body of believers in Jesus.

4. BAPTISM

Christian believers ought to obey the directive given by Jesus and be baptized in water as a testimony to their belief and commitment.

5.LIBERTY OF CONSCIENCE

Each Christian is absolutely free to form an opinion in matters of faith – i.e. every Christian may form his or her own beliefs based on the Bible’s revelation of God.  No person or group is free to force a doctrine on anyone else.

6. THE FREEDOM OF THE LOCAL CHURCH

Every local church should order its own life and practice, without interference from any person or group, religious or secular.

Churches, however, will want to mutually encourage each other in many ways.

7. CIVIC DUTY.

Every Christian is obliged to work for the betterment of national life.

8. THE PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS

All believers have equal access to God, based on the work of Christ on the cross and His resurrection.  Christ alone is our mediator with God.  The ministry of the church is that of the whole church, with its members having different functions.
